Controls and the Screen

Everything you can press, and what shows up on your screen.

Moving

Key What it does
W A S D or the arrow keys walk
Shift (hold) gallop, 1.6x speed, drains stamina
click the ground walk there, the world paths you around obstacles
Space jump, and a jump is also your dodge
F mount and dismount, once you can ride

Point and click can be turned off in Settings. On a tablet it is on by default.

Fighting

Key What it does
click a creature, or R strike
hold T, release aimed charge
R rear kick, horse only, hits behind you
hold Q brace, horse only
Z ground slam, human only, from level 16
K fire your worn relic, from level 28
tap or hold 1 2 3, on the ammo slot the ranged throw, with a slinger or flinger charm worn
X lock on to the next enemy
Space dodge

The whole of it is explained in Fighting.

Doing things

Key What it does
E the everything key: talk, gather, shop, sit at a terminal, claim a plot, open a chest, open a door, take a waystone, pick up loot
1 2 3 your three consumable slots. Throw ammo rides here too
4 5 your two gadget slots. Put the camera, the GPS tracker or the portable terminal on one and the key opens it, no hold and no cooldown
Y the sticker picker, once you hold the sticker pack
hold right-click the emote wheel, eight slots. Move to pick, release to play, release on an empty slot to assign one. Desktop only
G drink a beer
L flashlight on and off, if you are holding one
Tab swap between your weapon and your flashlight
7 8 9 the party flashlight's three modes: colour wheel, white pulse, colour pulse

E is contextual and it always tells you what it will do before you press it. If a prompt is on your screen, that is what E does right now.

The camera

Scroll to zoom, starting at 1.0x and going up to 1.3x. How far out you can pull is yours to set: the default floor is 0.8x, and the max zoom out slider in Settings under video takes it to 0.75x. On a phone you pinch, and the floor is 1.0x.

That is the whole camera. It does not rotate, and there is no first person view and no free camera. The world tilts and pushes in on its own when you charge, gather, slam or land a kill.

What is on your screen

  • Top centre, how many souls are online across the world, how many are here in this room with you, and what is left of your daily gather allowance, with the countdown to the midnight UTC reset folded in when the allowance is close to binding.
  • Top left, the activity bar, which fills as you play and pays horse shit when it completes. It is compact until you click it. On a phone it is a round button instead.
  • Bottom, your portrait, level, name, gloo balance, and the three bars: health, stamina and XP.
  • Above that, your ability chips with their cooldowns, your 1 2 3 items, and the two gadget slots on 4 and 5.
  • Bottom right, the minimap. It draws the real room: walls, stations, exits, gather nodes as green pips, creatures as rust dots, other souls as blue dots, your home as a gold house, your death site as a gold X. Scroll on it to zoom it. Click it to drop a pin.
  • Bottom left, chat.
  • Top right, the world view globe (from level 5), the leaderboards, social, the community board, settings, and log out on the end.
  • Beside the minimap, the world map button, the links chip, the notifications bell, and recall home once you have a stable.
  • A quest banner with your current step, always.

Logging out

The rightmost icon in that top right row is log out. It asks once, then takes your horse out of the world immediately, so nothing can reach it while you are gone. Your things stay exactly where they are.

On a phone the button is in Settings, under account, in a section called leaving.

It matters which way you leave. Logging out is instant. Closing the tab does the same thing. Reloading does not: a reload leaves your body standing in the world for about 45 seconds, and it can be killed there.

Pins and finding your way

Click anywhere on the minimap or the world map and you drop a pin. A gold trail lights up along the ground showing you the way there, and an arrow at the edge of your screen points at it. Click it again to clear it.

The same arrow points at loot on the ground near you, and at your death site until you get back to it.

The world map (M) stitches every region you have visited into one picture, with fog over what you have not seen. Scroll to zoom in to four times, drag to pan. Zoom in far enough and it labels the stations, doors and waystones. Carrying a GPS tracker turns it into fast travel.

Settings

Five tabs: game (point and click, hide your companion, chat opacity), audio (music, effects, boombox, interface and radio sliders, and the radio on and off switch), video (quality, max zoom out, brightness), account (rename yourself, log out, report a bug), and controls (the key list).

The in-game key list is not quite complete. Q, Z, H, J, K, N and the 1 2 3 slots are missing from it. They all work.

Things that do not exist

Saves you looking:

  • No emote animations. Expression is 64 pixel emoji in chat, the level 20 sticker pack that pops stickers over your head, and the emote wheel on right-click that plays them.
  • No screenshot key. The Camera is how you take pictures.
  • No camera rotation.
  • No auto-run. Click to walk is the hands-free option.
  • No guild, and no party you can form. Friends, whispers and trades are the social layer. The one exception is a boss group, which forms itself: everyone who has dealt real damage to Lil Knacker is listed together and none of them can hurt each other, even on open PvP ground.
  • No AFK kick. Go idle two minutes and everyone sees a * zZz over your head, but nothing disconnects you. The one exception is a trading terminal, which stands you up after 90 idle seconds so somebody else can sit.

Phones

Gluniverse runs on a phone. Touch devices get their own layout rather than a shrunken desktop one: a movement pad on the left, a use button with a ring of item and skill buttons under your right thumb, and a bags button opening the player sheet. Venue screens, benches and the map all open as full height sheets sized for a thumb.

Connecting a wallet on a phone opens your wallet app, you approve, and it hands you back to the browser. Both Phantom and Solflare work this way.

Tablets get point and click on by default.
