Build a Stable
A claimed plot is only marked ground. You turn it into a home by building a stable.
Bricks in the ground
Building means depositing bricks onto your plot until the stable stands. How many depends on the size of the plot:
- 6x6, 240 bricks
- 8x8, 480 bricks
- 10x10, 820 bricks and 4 iron fittings
- 12x12, 1,300 bricks, 6 iron fittings and a keystone (see The Field)
You do not need them all at once. Bring what you have, deposit it, and come back with more. When the count is met, the stable goes up. The fittings are creature drops, not bricks: the wild has to pay for the big houses. See Fighting.
What home gives you
A built stable does four things for you.
- Recall. Fast travel back to your stable from anywhere in the world, on a 15 second cooldown. No more walking the whole map home.
- Stash. A storage chest at the stable, 40 slots with up to 999 per row, open to you whenever you are home. It holds gear as well as materials, and it is the only store death cannot reach.
- The saddle. Once you craft a saddle you can mount your horse (press F) and ride at +50% move speed. Riding wants three things at once: the plot, the stable built on it, and the saddle in hand. At a level 1 stable you mount up near home; a level 2 stable lets you mount anywhere. Owning any saddle colour counts as the saddle, so a dropped one works as a key.
- Horse shit, around the clock. A standing stable produces it whether you are online or not, and it is one of only two ways the material enters the world. See Horse Shit and How You Earn It.
One more quiet perk: your own plot is sanctuary. Stand inside it and every creature loses interest in you at once. Nothing can be parked on your lawn.
It costs bricks to keep
A stable is not free to own. It eats bricks every day, one to four depending on its size, out of a bank you top up when you visit. Let the bank run low and the building stops producing. It is never destroyed and your stash is never touched, but a starved stable is a dead one. See Stable Upkeep.
What else you can build on it
The stable is the first building, not the last. Stand at it and open the stash panel, and the stable tab keeps an upgrades section with every way the place can grow:
- The kiln, 150 bricks, which fires armour up the rarity ladder in your own yard. See The Kiln and Armour Fusing.
- The room, 60 to 220 bricks by plot size, which turns the solid building into somewhere you can walk in and furnish. See Inside Your Stable.
- Level 2, the gloo upgrade, below.
Each one is a bar you fill: press lay bricks and the yard takes every brick you are carrying, up to what the job still owes.
Nobody can break it
A stable cannot be attacked, damaged or taken. Two things can still cost you one: taking it down yourself, and leaving the world long enough for the auction to sell the ground out from under you.
Naming it
Once, for free, you can put a name on your stable. It shows on the nameplate over the building for everyone who walks past. You get one shot at it per claim, so pick something you will still like.
Level 2
A built stable starts at level 1. Reach level 19 and you can upgrade it to level 2 for 150,000 gloo, paid once. Stand beside your stable, open its panel, and take the upgrade. The gloo goes to the treasury like a claim fee does, and it does not come back.
Level 2 gives you three things:
- A bigger stash, 60 slots instead of 40.
- Mount anywhere. No need to stand near home to get on your horse.
- The ride survives travel. Cross into another zone and you stay mounted, instead of dismounting and remounting at every border.
Level 1 keeps working exactly as it did. The upgrade is a convenience, not a wall, and dismantling a stable drops it back to level 1 without refunding the upgrade.
Taking it down
You can dismantle a stable, and you get 65% of everything you deposited back, bricks and fittings both, straight into your stash. The other 35% is destroyed in the taking apart. Make sure the stash has room first, or the world will refuse to start.
Dismantling drops a level 2 stable back to level 1 and the 150,000 gloo does not come back. After that you can leave the plot, which frees the lot for whoever wants it next. The claim fee is never refunded. It was a rake, not a deposit.
There is one other way out, and it pays: the land sale board on the Black Market. List your claimed plot at an asking price, take an offer, and the plot transfers whole, stable and all, for a 5% fee to the treasury. The one condition is an empty stash: the board will not move a plot with things still in the chest.
Where the gloo goes
Claiming a plot costs gloo, and that gloo does not disappear. It flows into the house treasury, the world's own account. The supply stays fixed, always. See The Economy.
The bricks come from the Kiln and the saddle from the Workshop. See The Brick Economy.
