# The Brick Economy

Everything built in the world is bricks. Stables, the [rooms](/gluebook/gluniverse-stable-interior) inside them, [plot kilns](/gluebook/gluniverse-kiln), [black market](/gluebook/gluniverse-black-market) shops, and every day of [upkeep](/gluebook/gluniverse-stable-upkeep) a standing stable eats.

## The recipe

Bricks are fired at the **Kiln**, three of which stand in the **Foal Pen**. The recipe is fixed:

**3 horse shit + 2 straw + 1 water = 1 brick.**

Nothing spawns a brick. Every brick in every building was fired by a player out of materials another player pulled out of the world.

## Its three inputs are not equals

This is the part that matters, and it changed on 15 August 2026.

- **Straw** and **water** are gathered at nodes and they **regrow**, 20 an hour up to 60 waiting at a node. They are the easy two thirds of a brick.
- **Horse shit cannot be gathered at all.** Its nodes were retired. It comes from a built [stable](/gluebook/gluniverse-build-a-stable), 5 to 8 an hour, or from [the activity bar](/gluebook/gluniverse-horse-shit), capped at 20 a day per wallet.

So shit is the ceiling on every brick, and it is a tight one. A 6x6 stable is 240 bricks, which is **720 horse shit**. On the free road that is 36 days of maxed daily play. Most builders buy their shit on the [Exchange](/gluebook/gluniverse-economy) from stable owners who make more than they can spend, which is exactly the trade the design wants.

One thing does mint bricks: the **[Magic Tree](/gluebook/gluniverse-magic-tree)** doubles every brick fed into its daily lottery pot. It is the game's only brick faucet, hard capped at fifteen a player a day and audited to the unit.

## What else the kiln fires

- **Metal rod**, 4 scrap. **Metal sheet**, 3 rods. Both feed the [black market](/gluebook/gluniverse-black-market) shop builds, which take 400 bricks, 10 iron fittings, 12 rods and 12 sheets each, and metal sheets are four of a [tent](/gluebook/gluniverse-tent).
- **Bone**, from 2 fishbone, at level 6. The Ocean's whole reason to exist.
- **Armour fusing**, on its second tab. See [The Kiln and Armour Fusing](/gluebook/gluniverse-kiln).

## The saddle

A saddle is not fired, it is built at the **Workshop**:

**6 hide + 3 scrap + 1 bone + 2 crude glue = 1 saddle.**

## Brick demand never ends

It used to. Once every plot in the world had a stable on it, bricks had nothing left to do, and for a while that was genuinely the shape of the economy.

Three things fixed it, and all three are permanent rather than one time:

- **Upkeep.** Every standing stable burns 1 to 4 bricks a day, forever, and they are destroyed rather than stored.
- **Room shells and plot kilns.** 60 to 220 bricks for a room, 150 for a kiln, on top of the building itself.
- **New land.** Reserve lots keep opening as the playerbase grows, and each one is a fresh 240 to 1,300 brick job.

## The relics

The big stables ask for one thing bricks cannot give: **iron fittings**, and for the biggest, a **keystone**. Neither is gathered, neither is fired, and since 6 August 2026 no quest hands them out. Iron fittings drop, rarely, from [the creatures](/gluebook/gluniverse-creatures) of the seven wild grounds and from the shipwreck chests on [the Shore](/gluebook/gluniverse-four-edges); a keystone comes off **Lil Knacker** and nowhere else. Both trade, but no vendor will buy either, so the only price they have is the one a player pays.

Everything on this page trades on the **Gloo Exchange**. See [The Economy](/gluebook/gluniverse-economy).
