# Rods, line and bait

Craft fishing supplies with **Mara Reed in town** or **Nell Reed at the Glasswater**. Choose your rod, bait and attachment in the Wardrobe's Fishing tab, anywhere. These supplies are tracked in the fishing kit; they are not ordinary Workshop bag recipes.

## Rods

| Rod | Fishing rank | Maximum reach | Materials |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Willow rod | 0 | 7 m | 100 Scrap + 30 Hide + 50 Sap + 20 Water |
| Channel rod | 6 | 10 m | 80 Scrap + 60 Hide + 80 Sap + 20 Water |
| Prism rod | 12 | 13 m | 180 Scrap + 180 Hide + 220 Sap + 80 Water + 40 Bone |

Channel requires an owned Willow rod; Prism requires an owned Channel rod. These are **fishing ranks**, not combat levels. Better rods pull harder and reach farther. They do not guarantee a particular species.

## Line, leaders and service

- **Line:** 1 Hide + 1 Straw + 1 Sap buys one metre. Craft 1–500 metres per order. Base underwater use is **0.75 m per minute**, multiplied by current and distance. At the strongest current it is 1.6875 m/min before the distance multiplier, up to 2.278125 m/min at maximum distance.
- **Retracting:** unused line returns to the spool. A snapped line also loses the deployed length. Time offline does not consume line.
- **Leaders:** 4 Scrap + 2 Bone buys 20 bites. A bite consumes one even if you miss it.
- **Rod servicing:** after 100 minutes underwater, service the selected rod for 20 Scrap + 12 Hide + 8 Sap. This fishing wear is separate from combat gear, which has no ordinary durability repair loop.

## Optional bait

A **bare hook works**. Bait speeds up bites and increases the weighting of its matching family among ordinary fish. One charge is spent when a bite arrives, including a missed bite. It does not boost the separate legendary/mythic roll.

| Bait | Family | Charges per craft | Materials |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Compost bait | bottom | 10 | 8 Horse Shit + 6 Water + 6 Straw |
| Resin scent | glow | 10 | 10 Sap + 4 Hide + 6 Water |
| Reed mash | dart | 10 | 12 Straw + 8 Water |
| Bone jig | deep | 10 | 4 Bone + 6 Scrap + 4 Hide + 6 Water |

## One attachment at a time

| Attachment | Effect | Materials |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Cork float | A longer hook window | 12 Straw + 8 Sap |
| Counterweight | Steadier tension, slower retrieval | 20 Scrap + 10 Hide |
| Spinner | Quicker bites, sharper pulls | 16 Scrap + 12 Sap |
| Barbless hook | More fishing experience when released | 6 Bone + 12 Hide |

## Mara's lessons

Complete them in order and return to Mara to claim the **fishing XP**. Work already done counts. Practice does not satisfy the real-catch step.

| Lesson | Task | Fishing XP |
| --- | --- | --- |
| A place by the water | Get your free starter kit from Fishing, then visit Mara for your next lesson. | 25 |
| Ready for the water | Equip your starter rod and check your line and hooks before visiting the water. | 40 |
| The first silver flash | Visit the Reed Bank in the Glasswater and land your first real catch. Practice casts are free but do not count. | 60 |
| Read the water | Discover three species. Try another bank or change your bait, then return to Mara. | 100 |
| Bring the lake home | Fire glass at a kiln, build and fill an aquarium inside your stable, then introduce a living fish. | 150 |
